Dazhong Total Curriculum

The school is committed to provide student-centric holistic education driven by values and competencies. It seeks to develop the C2015 outcomes, in particular the sense of curiosity for life-long learning, confidence and co-operation (3Cs) through the Total Curriculum@Dazhong. The Total Curriculum@Dazhong comprises rigorous programmes in academic, arts education, character and citizenship education (CCE), and sports education.

Philosophy of Art and Music

Art and Music play a significant role in education that encompasses the exploring, understanding and development of human intellect and well-being.

Art and Music provide unique opportunities for pupils to explore, appreciate and invent ways of expressing themselves. They are vital in the development of every pupil and in many ways, permeate every aspect of character building and the five habits of minds namely: disciplined, respectful, ethical, synthesizing and creating minds. They also offer a way to understand oneself and the world around us.

(A) Art

Primary 1 – Recycled Art (Puppet Making)

The module equips pupils with the fundamental skills and techniques of using recycled materials to create puppets, instills in pupils the knowledge of basic shapes, texture, warm & cool colours, as well as the application of simple art jargons. It also challenges pupils’ thinking and connect what they have learnt in the Art curriculum and across other subject areas where possible. It also provides opportunities for pupils to express their ideas and showcase of their artworks as part of pupils’ learning experience in art.

Primary 2 – Recycled Art (Mobile Making - Kinetic Sculpture)

The module equips pupils with the fundamental skills and techniques of using recycled materials to create kinetic sculpture, instills in pupils the knowledge of basic and organic shapes, primary and secondary colours, texture, patterns as well as the application of simple art jargons. It challenges pupils’ thinking and connect what they have learnt in the Art curriculum and across other subject areas where possible. It also provides opportunities for pupils to express their ideas and showcase of their artworks as part of pupils’ learning experience in art.

Primary 3 – Recycled Art (Paper Mache Sculpting)

The module equips pupils with the fundamental skills and techniques of using paper mache to create sculpture, instills in pupils the knowledge of forms, monochromatic colours, patterns, as well as the application of simple art jargons. It challenges pupilts’ thinking and connect what they have learnt in the Art curriculum and across other subject areas where possible. It also provides opportunities for pupils to express their ideas and showcase of their artworks as part of pupils’ learning experience in art.

Primary 4 – Mosaic Art

The module equips pupils with the fundamental skills and techniques in mosaic art.
Pupils will learn the basic techniques and skills required to create images with an assemblage of small pieces of coloured glass, stone, or other materials. It is a technique of decorative art or interior decoration. It challenges pupils’ thinking and connect what they have learnt in the Art curriculum and across other subject areas where possible. It also provides opportunities for pupils to express their ideas and showcase of their artworks as part of pupils’ learning experience in art.

Primary 5 – Batik Painting
The module equips pupils with the fundamental skills and techniques in Batik Painting. This module instils awareness and safe experience of batik painting techniques and process of Batik to pupils. Pupils will discover the potential of Batik as a medium for artistic expression. Pupils are able to develop fine-motor skills and planning skills of Batik Painting, incorporating in them the knowledge of Elements of Art and Principles of Design, as well as the application of simple art jargons.

Primary 6 – Chinese Ink Painting

The module equips pupils with the fundamental skills and techniques in Chinese Ink Painting. This module also instils in pupils the knowledge of Elements of Art and Principles of Design, as well as the application of simple art jargons. It challenges pupils’ thinking and connect what they have learnt in the Art curriculum and across other subject areas where possible. It also provides opportunities for pupils to express their ideas and showcase of their artworks as part of pupils’ learning experience in art.

(B) Music

Choral Singing Programme

Primary 1
The module provides opportunities for Primary 1 pupils to learn more about the elements of music and participate in activities to learn more about pitch, dynamics, rhythm and tempo through the processes of performing, listening and creating music using hand bells and percussion instruments in a fun way. The module is designed to facilitate the development of social and emotional competencies among our pupils through experiential learning. Pupils will have “hands on” experience with different types of instruments through individual and group music-related tasks. The module will also allow pupils to improvise and share their ideas with their peers through music.

Primary 2 – Primary 4
The module stretches pupils’ creative mind. Besides learning the basic elements of music and music genre, singing techniques, stage decorum, pupils will also be engaged in maintaining proper discipline for learning, showing respect to one another and expanding their creativity in music creation. Learning music making is not complete without experience a real life stage performance. Pupils will be trained for an end-of-programme performance showcase where each level will present at least two song items, with the purpose of building pupils’ self-confidence and capabilities.

Primary 5 – Primary 6
The module engages pupils in applying their knowledge and skills through group work by presenting a musical performance at the end of the year. Pupils will gain exposure and confidence in stage performance and voice projection. Pupils will learn to respect each other’s capabilities, learn to resolve problems that arise from the rehearsals, and expose to techniques used in musical singing.
